    Germany and Western Europe being targeted
    Jefferson County Economic Development expects to partner with Euromarket Development Services to spearhead a European marketing campaign. Euromarket has been working with US agencies since 1986 helping to foster relationships with international companies who are looking to expand into North America. Jefferson County is leveraging assets such as agriculture and manufacturing in the campaign and hopes to utilize current German companies as a springboard for success.

    Kraft Heinz is proposing a 52,000 sqft addition to it's Lowville, New York cream cheese plant. The village board has reviewed an application for the addition and could approve construction in December. This is the largest cream cheese plant in the country and produces the company's "Philadelphia" branded product. Construction could take up to year to complete.

    $3.5 Million Grant to extend runway 1,000 feet

    The Watertown International Airport in Jefferson County, New York has received a $3.5 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration to extend a runway 1,000 feet. This expansion will allow larger jets to fly into and out of the airport. Steady growth in passengers has also qualified the airport to receive $1 million in FAA money to help the airport rely less on local taxpayers.

    Jefferson County 16th Annual Community Survey
    The 16th Annual Jefferson County Survey of the Community holds some very key findings:
    • JeffCo residents indicated in 2015 that they feel better or more positive about the local economy since the Great Recession of 2008.
    • 64% of residents indicated that the presence of Fort Drum in the local area has a positive effect on their families or financial situation. Significantly higher than the 51% only a year ago.
    • Jefferson county residents reported a significant decrease in avoiding medical care due to cost down from 18% in 2009 to 9% in 2015.
    • 2015 continues a steady 6-year trend of positive perceptions of the overall state of the local economy
    • Highest ranking of Cultural/Entertainment opportunities rated as Excellent or Good ever found in the survey

    According to NYAB's President Micheal J. Hawthorne, new rules released by federal regulators for the transportation of crude oil by trains will require all tank cars to be equipped with electronically controlled pneumatic brakes which they manufacture.
